Goods transporters slash freights by 5% after fuel price cut

KARACHI (Staff Report): Goods transporters announced a 5% reduction in freight charges nationwide following the cut in petrol and diesel prices on Thursday.

All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan welcomed the government’s decision and said the cut was decided in view of fuel price reduction in the last four to five days.

Thanking the Prime Minister and Petroleum Minister, Awan appealed for further reduction in diesel and petrol prices to give relief to the public and transport sector.

He said business had been badly hit due to fall in imports and exports amid war conditions, and demanded special relief in toll tax, withholding tax and other taxes.

He also called for immediate implementation of commitments made by the government during nationwide strikes in December and August, saying transporters kept vehicles running despite war conditions to keep the economy moving.
