Student leads mangrove plantation drive at Sandspit

KARACHI (Staff Report): Raahem Shafique, an IB student at The International School Karachi, has undertaken a mangrove plantation initiative at Sandspit as part of his Middle Years Programme (MYP) Personal Project.

The initiative aims to protect the coastal environment, raise awareness about mangrove conservation and inspire youth to take practical action for a greener and more sustainable future.

The drive highlights the importance of youth-led environmental initiatives in preserving Karachi’s coastal ecosystems. Mangroves play a vital role in protecting shorelines from erosion, supporting marine biodiversity and mitigating climate change impacts.

His efforts were appreciated as an example of how students can contribute to environmental protection through community engagement.

The project seeks to encourage more young people to participate in conservation activities for future generations.
