PSX Surges nearly 3% as Investors Gain PKR 477 Billion in Weekly Rally
KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange posted strong gains last week, driven by a temporary easing of Middle East tensions and the State Bank’s stable monetary policy, which boosted investor confidence.
The benchmark 100-Index rose by 5,073 points, or 2.97% week-on-week, to close at 176,094 points. During the week the index touched a high of 179,123 points and a low of 174,612 points.
The market opened the week with aggressive buying, but momentum moderated mid-week due to renewed US-Iran tensions.
Trading activity also picked up significantly. The average daily traded volume climbed 19.4% to 831.3 million shares, while the average daily traded value increased 14.2% to $114 million.
The rally translated into solid wealth gains for investors. Market capitalization rose by PKR 477 billion to Rs19.756 trillion, giving shareholders a weekly profit of PKR 477.32 billion.
Analysts said the positive sentiment was supported by improved macroeconomic indicators and hopes of continued policy stability. They added that geopolitical developments will remain a key factor to watch in the coming week.
