Kissan Ittehad announces nationwide protest on November 4
KARACHI (News Desk): The Pakistan Kisan Ittehad has announced a protest over the failure to start the sugarcane crushing season and fix the official support price for the crop.
Chairman of Pakistan Kisan Ittehad, Khalid Hussain Bath, said sugar mill owners not starting the crushing season from November 1 and the non-determination of the official sugarcane price is a matter of concern for growers. He said farmers are united for their legitimate rights and will not back down until they get a fair price.
In a video statement, Khalid Bath said that Sindh Abadgar Ittehad will stage a protest demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club on November 4, and has appealed to farmers, peasants, landlords and farmers’ organizations from all four provinces to participate.
He said that just as farmers from all four provinces had united in the past over the wheat price issue to raise their voice for their demands, a similar joint struggle will be launched to get a fair price for sugarcane.
According to Khalid Bath, the future strategy and line of action of the farmers will also be announced during the protest in front of the Karachi Press Club. He said the struggle of the farmers will continue until they get a fair and just price for sugarcane.
