KARACHI: Karachi Port Trust reported historic-high throughput for the fiscal year 2025-26, handling a total of 55.4 million tons of cargo, marking a 2.76% annual increase, according to its annual performance report.
The report said import handling rose 5.82% to 35.9 million tons, while export handling declined 2.44% to 19.5 million tons. Container handling also grew 3.67% year-on-year to 2.75 million TEUs.
Driven by rising energy demand, liquid cargo jumped 7.93% to 13.3 million tons. KPT noted a significant increase in the arrival of oil tankers and bulk carriers during the year.
Ship traffic at Karachi Port also climbed 7.36%, with 2,115 vessels berthed in FY26. Overall cargo volume increased by 1.49 million tons compared to the previous year.
SAPTL remained the leading terminal with a 59.6% share of total handling. KPT said the growth reflects improved operational efficiency and stronger import activity at the country’s busiest seaport.
