PSX surges over 2,100 points amid falling oil prices

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange closed sharply higher on Monday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index gaining 2,105.91 points, or 1.20%, to settle at 178,200.02.

The rally was driven by broad-based buying across key sectors including commercial banks, oil marketing companies, cement, fertilizer, exploration & production, and power generation.

The index opened strong and hit an intraday high of 178,985.94, up 2,742.88 points, before trimming some gains. The day’s low was recorded at 177,759.88.

Market sentiment got a boost after international crude oil prices dropped more than $4 per barrel. The decline came as US President Donald Trump held back from new military action against Iran and signaled a preference for diplomatic talks to address Tehran’s nuclear program and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The easing oil prices lifted investor confidence, fueling optimism across the market.
